West Ham are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer, according to a new update.
Has Gallagher struggled this season?
The 23-year-old enjoyed an excellent spell on loan at Crystal Palace over the 21/22 season, but once it was done and dusted, he returned to Stamford Bridge. The hope was that he would take his Eagles form with him to the Blues, but he found it difficult to be a regular throughout last season.
Gallagher only started 18 of Chelsea's 38 league matches, coming off the substitutes' bench another 17 times, but just three goals and one assist came his way, compared to eight and three respectively at Palace last term respectively.
For that reason, it could be that the Englishman leaves the Blues on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window, in order to be a key starter elsewhere. It doesn't look as though there are a lack of clubs showing an interest in him, which is where West Ham come into play.
Conor-Gallagher-Chelsea
Could West Ham sign Gallagher in the summer?
According to talkSPORT's Alex Crook, the Hammers are in the mix to sign the £40m-rated midfielder before the beginning of next season:
"Gallagher is not believed to have done enough this season to convince the Blues hierarchy that he ill be a part of their long-term plans.
"West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace, where he had a successful loan spell, have all been alerted to the possibility of signing the £40million-rated midfielder."
Gallagher could be an excellent signing by West Ham this summer, helping partially fill the likely void left by Declan Rice, who looks almost certain to move on and join one of the Premier League's powerhouse clubs.
Granted, the Chelsea man is a more attack-minded player than Rice, but he possesses both technical quality and a very strong work ethic, having enjoyed an 84.5% pass completion rate and averaged 1.3 tackles per game in the league this season. At 23, he is also still such a young player and he could benefit so much from starting every week, maturing more as a footballer and not growing stagnant, as could potentially be the case at Stamford Bridge.
Former Blues manager Graham Potter called him "fantastic" during their time together at the club, while six caps for an England team brimming with top-class midfield talent further highlights what a talented player he is, and why West Ham would be wise to make a move for him.
Warwickshire have won the race to sign highly-rated Northamptonshire seamer Olly Stone

Warwickshire have won the race to sign highly-rated Northamptonshire seamer Olly Stone.Stone, a former England U-19 captain, is currently sidelined by injury but is regarded as one of the most exciting fast bowling prospects in the county game and was known to be of interest to at least eight counties. In the end, the prospect of Division One cricket and assurances that he would not be over-bowled sealed the deal for Warwickshire.Stone will not bowl again this season having suffered a freak injury to his anterior cruciate ligament while celebrating a wicket but, aged 22, has gained attention with his pace and control. Warwickshire see his signing as a major coup and regard him as the outstanding fast bowling prospect in the English game. The club also hope to sign a top-order batsman with Keaton Jennings, from Durham, understood to be their No. 1 target. Jennings, the leading run-scorer in the top division of the County Championship this season with five centuries, is aged 24, and seen by Warwickshire as a player with leadership potential. The addition of Stone and Jennings would go some way to re-balance what has become a Warwickshire side top-heavy with players in their mid-30s. It would be interpreted at Edgbaston as quite a coup for a club that has, over recent years, struggled to attract players to Birmingham. In recent times they have missed out on the likes of James Taylor, David Willey, David Sales, Steve Kirby, Alex Gidman and many more.Durham, whose financial issues compromise their ability to offer competitive salaries, have already lost Mark Stoneman to Surrey while several clubs have made approaches to sign Scott Borthwick. It is understood he has held talks with Surrey in the last few days.Warwickshire are set to lose a couple of players, too. Richard Jones has departed for Leicestershire on a two-year deal, while Varun Chopra is talking to several clubs about his options for next year. The club have confirmed that Chopra will not be offered a new contract at the end of this year. A return to Essex appears the most likely option. And while Ian Bell may well return to the club’s wage bill after many years of being covered by a central contract, it seems those costs could be off-set by Chris Woakes going the other way. There is also some uncertainty around the future of Laurie Evans. ESPNcricinfo understands that Evans has asked to be released from his Warwickshire contract due to his frustration at a lack of first team appearances in the County Championship. The 28-year-old is highly rated but, with a middle-order spot at the club blocked by the emergence of Sam Hain and the return of Bell and Jonathan Trott, his opportunities have been limited to a single Championship appearance this season. The club insist they want Evans, who remains an important part of their white ball side, to stay.

Adam Voges hopes his remarkably productive home summer last year will hold him in good stead when Australia’s selectors assess the fallout from the recent whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka

Adam Voges hopes his remarkably productive home summer last year will hold him in good stead when Australia’s selectors assess the fallout from the recent whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka. Australia lost all three Tests in turning conditions, and will face much of the same early next year they will travel to India for four Tests. But in the meantime, they will host South Africa and Pakistan for six Tests on surfaces that are far more familiar.Voges was one of the batsmen who struggled to adapt to the slow, spinning pitches in Sri Lanka, where he failed to score a fifty across the three Tests and averaged 19.66. However, last summer he piled up 660 runs at 165.00 in the six home Tests against New Zealand and West Indies, and he also scored profusely on the tour of New Zealand that followed. But at 36, Voges knows that all his mountains of runs will count for little if he endures a prolonged dry patch, and scores of 47, 12, 8, 28, 22 and 1 constitute the beginnings of one. The home Test summer begins at the WACA against South Africa in early November, and Voges hopes that his track record at that ground, and in Australia generally, will be enough to convince the selectors to stick with him.”The first home Test for the summer is here at the WACA and obviously conditions are fairly different to what we’ve just experienced,” Voges said on on Thursday. “I take a lot of confidence out of what I was able to do last summer, and hopefully get that opportunity here in Perth at my home ground, somewhere that I’ve grown up playing and know the conditions really well.”I’ve given the selectors the opportunity to leave me out if they wanted to, with how I’ve performed in Sri Lanka. Hopefully they keep the faith with me. I still think I’ve got plenty to offer. I take a lot of confidence out of what I was able to do last summer, and really the form and the run that I’ve had over the last couple of years, hopefully the last three Tests have just been a small blip on what’s been a pretty good couple of years.”Four times from the six innings in Sri Lanka, Voges was dismissed by Rangana Herath. However, he was far from alone in struggling against Herath, who claimed 28 wickets for the series and caused Australia major problems in all three Tests.”We didn’t have a lot of answers for him, to be honest,” Voges said. “He has very subtle variations with his release points, his pace, where he stands on the wicket. But ultimately the ball seems to end up relatively in the same area. Some spin, some don’t. And he’s just very crafty. In conditions that suit him, like they did over there, he’s certainly a handful.”It took until the third Test for Australia to find a batsman to build on a start and go on to reach triple figures – Shaun Marsh and Steven Smith both did so in the first innings in Colombo – but by then the series was decided. Sri Lanka had wrapped up their triumph in Galle, where they set Australia 413 to win. Voges came to the crease at 61 for 4 and reverse swept his first ball, persisting with the shot until it brought him undone on 28.”We spoke before that fourth innings and on a Galle wicket that was spinning quite a bit, the skipper and the coach asked the batting group to be a lot more proactive with the way we went about things,” Voges said. “The reverse sweep was basically my version of it. I played one first ball, which was a little bit gutsy, but there was only one bloke on the off side and eight on the leg side.”My thinking was that if I could get one away it would bring at least one of those guys back over and maybe I could find a couple of gaps on the leg side … It always looks bad when you get out playing that sort of shot, but at the time I thought it was the best way to try and combat them and score runs in those conditions … If I had my time again I’d still play the shot – maybe a little more selectively and mix it up a little bit more than what I did.”
Liverpool's new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke could be eyeing a move for Napoli ace Eljif Elmas as he looks to reconstruct the Reds' midfield this summer…
What's the latest on Eljif Elmas to Liverpool?
That's following a discussion between transfer guru Fabrizio Romano and the player's agent George Gardi, who, when asked by the Italian journalist if there was anything "concrete with Liverpool and Newcastle", stated that "there is interest" in Elmas from the Premier League, as well as Germany and Spain.
Turkish journalist Ahmet Ercanlar (as relayed by football365) claimed in December that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp had a 'private call' with Elmas as he attempted to lure him to Anfield, with Football Transfers valuing the 23-year-old at £26m.
Napoli signed the North Macedonia international for €16m (£14m) from Fenerbahce in 2019 and he has since been a reliable and dynamic midfielder for I Partenopei, starring as his outfit won the Scudetto this season.
How good is Eljif Elmas?
While Elmas starred during Napoli's triumphant Serie A campaign this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists from 35 league matches, he started on only 13 occasions in the division and may now be searching for new pastures.
Despite playing a peripheral role this term, the dynamic midfielder boasts impressive metrics across a wealth of areas, with FBref ranking him among the top 5% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for rate of non-penalty goals, the top 21% for shot-creating actions, the top 14% for progressive carries and the top 21% for successful take-ons per 90.
The £32k-per-week star has been lauded as a "jewel" by Gardi, and while he can play confidently across the whole gamut of midfield and wide positions, excels as a creative number ten, which sets him in good stead to emulate someone such as Manchester City's Bernardo Silva.
Man City wingerBernardo Silva
Silva has been scintillating under Pep Guardiola since signing for the Citizens for £43m in 2017, scoring 55 goals and providing 59 assists from 305 appearances and winning five Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies among many major honours, on course for a historic treble this season.
The 28-year-old Portuguese star ranks among the top 10% of midfielders for rate of non-penalty goals, the top 18% for shot-creating actions, the top 1% for progressive carries and the top 11% for successful take-ons per 90, and, like Elmas, can be deployed across a melange of positions, dynamism of the highest calibre.
Still just 23, Elmas is displaying all the promise of a future gem on the European scene, having already achieved illustrious success in Naples, and given the opportunity, he could thrive at the heart of Klopp's team on Merseyside for years to come.

A new era could be on the horizon for Crystal Palace. Club legend Wilfried Zaha’s contract is set to expire at the end of this month, and with a £200k-per-week offer still yet to be accepted, the Ivorian may deservedly seek to challenge himself away from Selhurst Park.
If Zaha chooses to depart, it will leave a monumental hole in the heart of the Eagles' attack.
At times, the winger has had to deputise at centre forward due to the ineptitude of Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The pair have netted just seven goals between them this season – an underwhelming duo who lack the movement, technique, and skill required to effectively lead the Palace line.
One name linked to possibly shoulder the burden of Zaha’s exit and an upgrade to the ineffective French duo is Viktor Gyokeres, who appears destined for a move to the top flight.
What’s the latest on Viktor Gyokeres to Crystal Palace?
According to The Athletic, the Coventry striker is an outside target for the South London outfit, but he is in “high demand” after a sensational season in the Championship.
Previous reports have stated he could cost in the region of £20m to prise away from the Midlands.
How could Viktor Gyokeres fit in at Crystal Palace?
The striker has presented himself to be a formidable combination of a potent goalscorer and the chief creator – he has netted 21 times in the second tier this season at a rate of 0.44 goals per 90.
But what sets him apart from the traditional number nine is his ability to provide for his teammates, having recorded 12 assists (the highest in the division), including the setup for Gustavo Hamer’s equaliser in the play-off final against Luton Town.
Described as “unplayable” by teammate Maxime Biamou, the 25-year-old created 79 chances in 49 outings to underline his innovative, creative spark that was crucial to Coventry’s promotion push.
When Coventry beat Watford in November 2022, then-Hornets manager Slaven Bilic perfectly summed up Gyokeres undeniable influence and said: “He is a very strong striker, a player who can not only keep and hold the ball, but he can hurt you. He can run into the channels and he’s strong.
“He’s not an old-fashioned typical target man though, because target men have problem in movement. He is a target man but also has good movement.”
With Gyokeres’ busy, tricky, and effervescent style of play, the thought of this refined focal point being supported by Eberechi Eze could be devastating.
The Englishman recorded 14 goal involvements in the Premier League this year and has been the club’s best player.
Eze in action for Crystal Palace
Hailed as “different class” by former coach Patrick Vieira, the playmaker ranks in the best 1% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for successful take-ons per 90, as well as the highest 16% for progressive carries per 90, according to FBref.
With these two dynamic, skilful assets linking up next season, Crystal Palace may have hit the jackpot.
The BCCI has called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on October 15 in Delhi to discuss the interim order passed by the Supreme Court last week
Nagraj Gollapudi10-Oct-2016
The BCCI will hold its second SGM within a period of 15 days•BCCI
The BCCI has called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on October 15 in Delhi to discuss the interim order passed by the Supreme Court last week. The order had given the board and state associations to respond by October 17 whether they would “unconditionally” comply with the Lodha Committee’s recommendations. This week’s SGM is the second such emergent meeting called by the BCCI in the last two weeks. At the last SGM, on October 1, the BCCI had decided to conditionally adopt some of the recommendations which further infuriated the court.Consequently, the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court alerted the BCCI “not to precipitate” matters during the hearing last Friday. The court also asked the board to stop issuing funds to errant state associations which did not implement the recommendations.Despite the pressing directive and the urgency sought from the court, both BCCI as well as most states associations continued to remain stoic and unaffected. Incidentally, the board’s notice on the SGM only reached the state associations on Monday. Also, president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke are currently in Cape Town attending ICC meetings from October 10 to 14.Officials at both BCCI and state associations ESPNcricinfo spoke to pointed out that certain discrepancies between the July 18 court order passed by the court and the Lodha Committee report that was released on January 4. The board is likely to point out the same during the next hearing on October 17 when the court reconvenes after the holidays. One legal loophole, Shirke pointed out, was whereas earlier in the Lodha report state associations were given one year, the July 18 court order prescribed a maximum of six months to implement the recommendations. Shirke said it only created confusion. “The legal difficulties are that the committee has given the state associations one year,” Shirke told the . “Now suddenly, they have made it deadline-bound. Has the one-year deadline been withdrawn by the SC? We don’t know. It hasn’t been informed. Now, today’s order of the Supreme Court says, as we didn’t submit the affidavit, they had to stop the money. In light of all this, there’s confusion.”In the Lodha report, referring to grounds for sanction and derecognition of a member, the committee had said: “No Member shall be entitled to any grant from the BCCI if its Constitution fails to provide for, or comply with the following within One Year after the Effective Date.” The “following” was essentially the new governance structure suggested by the committee for which the states would first need to amend their constitution. However, a basic reading of the court order makes it clear the court had designated the Lodha Committee to oversee and direct the implementation of the recommendations at both BCCI and state level within a “reasonable” period ranging between four and six months from the July 18 order.BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke has said there is “confusion” over the one-year deadline given by the Lodha report in January and the July 18 court order which prescribes a maximum of six months to implement the recommendations•AFP
So far, only two official Full Members, Vidarbha Cricket Association and Tripura Cricket Association, have adopted the recommendations unanimously. Rajasthan Cricket Association, which is not recognised by BCCI since it elected Lalit Modi (banned by BCCI) as its president, was the first to adopt the recommendations. However, most of bigger state associations remain defiant.A former BCCI office bearer, who is currently head of a state association, was irritated when asked if he was bothered by the last week’s court directive which asked the BCCI to stop issuing funds to the states. “There is no difficulty we – states – face,” he said. “Lodha Committee has given a particular recommendation about the states. In the Supreme Court judgement, para 61, the court has said it accepts the rights of a citizens under Article 19 (1) (c) to form an association and the court will not interfere.”The official pointed out that the court had said the BCCI could not be granted the same immunity under Article 19(1) (c) since it is a private body performing a public function. “The court has now asked BCCI to stop giving funds to state associations that do not comply with the recommendations set by the Lodha Committee. But if I don’t (comply) nobody can touch me. The board will not pay me money, but that money can only be board’s money. If the money belongs to the states, the court cannot stop us.”The official said that if his state association were to host an international match, he has the right to get the money that the BCCI earns from the broadcasting rights. “We are holding the match. BCCI is only negotiating on our behalf.”A senior lawyer, who is well conversant with the BCCI constitution, said the state association president had misread and misinterpreted the clause. The lawyer pointed out he had heard the same reasoning being given by more than one state association. “Everyone has a right to freedom of association under Article 19 (1) (c), but once you have associated the court has said nothing stops it from regulating you (the state association) after you carry out a public function,” the lawyer said.
