West Indies’ batsmen struggled on the first day of their tour match against a Sri Lanka President’s XI at Colombo

West Indies’ tour of Sri Lanka got off to a disappointing start when the tourists were bundled out for 176 by seam and spin on the first day of their three-day match against Sri Lanka President’s XI at the SSC. Only middle-order batsmen Brendan Nash and Shivnarine Chanderpaul got useful practice out in the middle ahead of next Monday’s first Test in Galle.The pair rescued West Indies from 29 for 3 with a partnership of 81 before spinners Ajantha Mendis and Malinga Bandara wrapped up the lower order. Nash who scored 62 off 107 balls said, “We would have liked to have batted some more overs and got used to the conditions over here. The wicket was quite good although it played a few little tricks. Maybe it was just one of those things where we started the tour a little slowly today.”Shiv and I batted together for a while and a few of the other guys showed signs of hanging there for a little bit. We were a little disappointed by the way we batted but we were surprised by the wicket being quite easy to bat on. Maybe that took us a little bit by surprise and we didn’t adjust as well as we should have.”Describing his maiden half-century in the subcontinent, Nash said, “I was a little scratchy in patches for my first innings in this part of the world. Personally I am pleased with it – the mental and physical side of things.”I was interested with the pace of the wicket, it was two-paced. Just when you thought you were sort of going quite easy something would happen to keep you on your toes. Although it was a nice wicket to bat on, every now and then it reminded you that something can happen out there.”Nash said that West Indies should take a good look at their batting today and establish how they were going to move on from there. “We got this out of our system and had a bit of a knock in the middle, so we got to know the conditions and what they are going to be like. We can learn from today. We have to move forward and keep going.”Nash expressed surprise in the way the home team approached their batting. “The top four batsmen who came out played real shots. They obviously had a plan to come out quite hard and score runs quickly. We sort of pegged them back towards the end by taking a few wickets.”It’s a three-day match and there is plenty of time. The wicket might break up a little bit more so it would be another test for our batsmen and bowlers to use those conditions,” he said.

وتابع: “الكثير من المنتخبات حققت العديد من المفاجآت في المونديال، منتخب المغرب يمكنه أن يقدم مباراة كبيرة ولما لا يفوز على إسبانيا؟”.

وأكد: “المنتخب البرازيلي قريب من حصد كأس العالم، أتوقع النهائي بين فرنسا والبرازيل”.

وأردف: “ميسي ذو أداء رائع مع المنتخب الأرجنتيني، ويقدم كرة رائعة، ورونالدو ما زال واحدًا من أفضل اللاعبين في العالم، ولكن لم يقدم المستوى المطلوب منه، الثنائي يقدمان أداءً رائعًا منذ سنوات طويلة”.

وواصل: “خضت العديد من المواجهات أمام منتخب مصر حينما كنت المدير الفني لمنتخب نيجيريا، وكانت مباريات خاصة ومميزة، وسجلنا العديد من الأهداف في مرمى المنتخب المصري، وكنا نعمل حساب من الهجوم وخط الوسط”.

واستأنف: “كنا ننجح في تسجيل الأهداف وكنت أعتمد على الكرات الطويلة حينما كنت أواجه مصر، لدي ذكريات سعيدة ورائعة أمام مصر”.

واستطرد: “منتخب مصر جيد جدًا ولسوء الحظ خسروا في كأس أمم إفريقيا بمصر أمام منتخب جنوب إفريقيا وخسروا اللقب، المنتخب المصري جيد جدًا ولديه لاعبين مميزين، ومن المؤكد أن محمد صلاح أفضل لاعب في منتخب مصر، لاعب رائع ومن الطراز الرفيع وكنت أتمنى رؤيته في كأس العالم”.

واختتم: “تلقيت العديد من العروض منذ مدة طويلة وتلقيت عرضًا من مصر عندما كنت أدرب نيجيريا، حاليًا متواجد مع عائلتي بفرنسا، وجاهز في أي وقت لتولي الأمور الفنية لأي فريق”.

90min reporter Graeme Bailey has revealed the three deals that PIF are plotting to complete heading into the upcoming transfer window as they look to bolster their squad for 2022/23.

Bailey Tweeted: “Newcastle United are ready to press ahead with the transfer plans they set in motion in January, and will look to finalise deals for Hugo Ekitike, Matt Targett and Jesse Lingard.”

Eddie Howe will be on cloud nine

The Magpies head coach will be left on cloud nine by this update as all three players would be excellent signings for the club.

Firstly, Targett would be a sensible, excellent, permanent signing for the Toon. He is a reliable, proven, Premier League performer who has been solid for Newcastle since joining on loan in January.

In the top-flight this season, he has averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 6.92 across 29 starts, which shows that he can deliver on a regular basis from left-back in the division.

Secondly, Lingard has the potential to be an exciting addition to the team. He has found game time hard to come by at Manchester United this season but caught the eye on loan at West Ham last term as he scored nine goals and provided four assists in 16 league outings.

This shows that he has the quality to be a difference-maker at the top end of the pitch. The only question mark would be over whether he can sustain that over the course of an entire campaign as he caught fire in a six-month spell at the London Stadium.

Finally, Ekitike would be a phenomenal signing for now and for the future. He has produced nine goals and two assists in 14 Ligue 1 starts for Stade Reims and this suggests that he would be able to have an immediate impact on the team if he can adjust to English football.

However, he also has the scope to develop and improve over time at the age of 19. He has the majority of his career left ahead of him and that means he is a player the club can nurture over the course of a number of years, making him a good signing and investment at the same time.

Therefore, Howe will be on cloud nine if PIF can get all three of these deals over the line as they would all be fantastic additions in their own right.

Alex Neil has given a post-match update on injury issues on two defenders in the team and it’s bad news for Sunderland.

What’s the latest?

The Black Cats boss confirmed that Dennis Cirkin will be out for the last two games and gave an update (via Northern Echo) on Carl Winchester who was forced off the pitch against Cambridge early into the first half of the game.

“It’s an injury issue with Dennis. In terms of his return, providing we extend the season (get into the playoffs), then I’d be very hopeful that Dennis would play a part.”

“Winny has hurt his groin, but the extent of it, I can’t tell you at the moment,”

“If Dennis and Winny are going to be missing now, there may well be an opportunity for Callum to play.”

Bad news for Sunderland

Losing two key players at such a crucial stage of the season will certainly be bad news for Sunderland supporters and the team ahead of their final push for a playoff spot for a chance at promotion to the Championship in the last two games.

The Mackems are currently fourth in the League One table following their win over Cambridge United, however, the top six is so tight that there is only a point difference in Sunderland’s current position and the seventh spot currently occupied by Sheffield Wednesday, who like Alex Neil’s side have an extra game to play compared to the rest of the top six.

Winchester has only missed four games over the entire season and has been heavily relied upon by his new manager since his arrival in February playing every single game in the eleven-game unbeaten run Sunderland are enjoying right now. Thus, his loss will definitely be felt in the team if he won’t be available to play in the remaining games.

Cirkin has just missed eight games this season due to groin surgery earlier in the campaign but has again been heavily involved in the success since Alex Neil’s arrival, playing the full 90 minutes in every single game the Scotsman has managed so far. That has seemingly taken its toll in the final throws of the season as he is likely to be completely ruled out for the rest of the term.

With that being said, losing two crucial players in the backline will surely be a devastating blow for the side but Neil will be hoping that Sunderland have enough to take them over the line to secure a playoff spot over the final games.

Na segunda etapa, o Tubarão retornou melhor e começou pressionando a equipe do Tigre. Com isso, o Peixe não demorou muito para empatar o jogo, e aos 17 minutos, Daniel Costa fez gol da igualdade. Após o gol, a equipe de Tubarão não recuou e buscou virar a partida. Ao final da partida, o time da casa conseguiu uma chance clara de gol, que a bola passou raspando na trave. Fim de papo: 1 a 1.

Ninguém no Flamengo esconde que o grande projeto de 2018 é voltar a figurar entre os melhores da Copa Libertadores, competição que o Rubro-Negro não sabe o que é conquistar desde 1981 – sua única final e conquista. E nesta quarta-feira, o Fla abre seu caminho na principal competição de clubes da América do Sul, diante do River Plate (ARG), no Nilton Santos. No caminho, para superar o trauma de seguidas eliminações de forma precoce, os carioca ainda terão Santa Fé (COL) e Emelec (EQU), compondo o grupo 4. Veja o que espera o Rubro-Negra nessa caminhada.

O QUE ESPERAR?

O Flamengo entra nesta Libertadores com um elenco recheado de estrelas. Nomes como Everton Ribeiro e Diego Alves são apostas, que já estavam no clube no ano passado, mas que não chegaram ainda na Libertadores. Além deles, o grande reforço é Henrique Dourado. Artilheiro do último Brasileiro, o Ceifador chega como esperança de gols para a equipe na competição.

No banco de reservas um velho conhecido da torcida e própria Copa Libertadores: Paulo César Carpegiani. Trinta e sete anos depois, o comandante retorna para tentar levar o Rubro-Negro ao bicampeonato continental. Era ele que comandava a equipe que faturou a taça em 1981.

Outro ponto a se destacar é a manutenção da base do ano passado. Os jogadores questionados pela torcida, como Márcio Araújo, Rafael Vaz e Alex Muralha, já não fazem mais parte do elenco. Chegaram, além do Ceifador, o colombiano Marlos Moreno e o goleiro Julio César. O ídolo, contudo, sequer foi inscrito na competição.

PARA SE PREOCUPAR

Apesar do forte elenco, o Flamengo ainda não conta com uma defesa que faça a Nação dormir tranquila. Veterano, Juan é uma incógnita, já que não se sabe quantos jogos ele pode jogar. Réver e Rhodolfo possuem atuações regulares, mas também não considerados os zagueiros do sonhos.

Pesa contra, também para os flamenguistas o péssimo retrospecto na competição, em especial nos últimos anos. Nas edições de 2012, 2014 e 2017, o Flamengo sequer passou da fase de grupos e o trauma da torcida está muito vivo na memória. Além disso, o Fla é recordista entre os clubes brasileiros de eliminações na primeira: são cinco no total.

Para completar, as duas primeiras partidas do Flamengo em casa, contra River Plate e Santa Fé serão de portões fechados, punição imposta pela Conmebol devido aos incidentes provocados pela torcida na final da Copa Sul-Americana, do ano passado. A torcida fará falta neste início.

Carpegiani retornou ao Flamengo e logo foi impondo sua forma de jogar. Com o novo treinador, o Flamengo atua no 4-1-4-1. com uma linha consistente de quatro meio campistas, que se revezam nos flancos e centralizados. Cuéllar – suspenso dos dois primeiros jogos – é o volante fixo. Sem ele, Jonas será titular diante do River Plate, nesta quarta feira.

The Latest: Everton lurking for Colwill

As per the official website of Italian football journalist and transfer insider Gianluca di Marzio, Everton are among a number of clubs to have ‘expressed an interest’ in Colwill.

Leicester City, Southampton, Fulham and the Terriers themselves would also be interested in signing him this summer, should the latter gain promotion to the Premier League.

However, Chelsea have been ‘delighted’ with the progress that Colwill is making, and Thomas Tuchel is now set to make a ‘final decision’ on him during pre-season.

The Verdict: Sign him

Coming through the youth ranks at Chelsea, and now impressing at Championship level, Colwill is clearly a player with a lot of potential.

Described by Anton Ferdinand as a ‘Rolls Royce’ who has ‘got everything’ to go to the ‘very top’, the 19-year-old has a very high ceiling, and Frank Lampard would no doubt be eager to help develop him on Merseyside having come from his former club.

Nonetheless, with competition for his signature set to increase after a successful season, the Toffees must sign Colwill now in order to avoid disappointment later.
