PAI Capital plan second West Ham takeover bid

West Ham United’s takeover saga is by no means over as a major update emerged earlier this week…

What’s the word?

As revealed by the Evening Standard, investment firm PAI Capital are set to launch a second bid to purchase the East London-based Premier League outfit, having had their first offer of £400m rejected by majority shareholder David Sullivan, who described it as “derisory”.

The consortium, which involves managing partner Nasib Piriyev and former QPR chief Philip Beard, are determined to negotiate a deal.

Piriyev told the Evening Standard that they were granted access to the club’s business data around six months ago and that PAI Capital did provide proof of funds, despite reports on the contrary.

“If Mr Sullivan does not agree to our offer price, he has the full right to do so because the shares are his private property,” he said. “Although I do believe any owner of a Premier League club and a brand of West Ham’s calibre must also feel a duty to the community and fans – but what he cannot do is simply say that we are not serious.

“That is false information, but we are not going to fall for this move and do not want to escalate any conflict.

“So, with all respect to Mr Sullivan, we will continue pursuing this opportunity and make our best efforts to get him to agree to our offer and sell his controlling stake of the club.” GSB Out

It’s certainly no secret that the relationship between Sullivan, David Gold and Karen Brady and the London Stadium fanbase has been rocky for the past few years.

When staring down the barrel of relegation at the end of the 2019/20 season, thousands of fans protested against the board across a string of matches. Meanwhile, their trip to Anfield to face Liverpool saw some supporters unfurl banners, reading: ‘Run like a circus – Owned by clowns’ and ‘GSB out – Sold a dream, delivered a nightmare.’

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-the-latest-gossip-and-much-more-3” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and much more!”]

David Moyes then, thankfully, steered the club to safety.

However, later that summer, GSB sanctioned the exit of promising academy gem Grady Diangana, who had signed a six-year deal at the club only 18 months earlier. And this caused further uproar, with even captain Mark Noble venting his anger at the club.

The Scot has since guided the Irons into the Europa League but those feelings of anger against the ownership have not gone away, with supporter group Hammers United planning to protest, once again, before their home match with Manchester United next month.

PAI Captial seem relentless in their attempts to take over the club from Sullivan and co, so this should give the West Ham faithful plenty of hope. It may be a long and drawn-out process – you only have to look at Newcastle’s situation – but at the very least, there’s genuine and public interest that could see GSB out the door.

This latest claim from Piriyev should leave many around East London absolutely delighted.

Cox to continue as national selector

Jamie Cox, the former Tasmania captain, will continue as a national selector despite his appointment as South Australia’s high performance manager. Cox was confirmed as Rod Marsh’s successor by the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) on Saturday.Currently a group sport manager at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Cox will move to Adelaide at the end of September. “I will be [staying on as a selector] at this stage”, Cox told the . “They look to be complementary roles that both require watching a lot of cricket and I may as well be doing that based in Adelaide as based in Canberra.”However, questions might be asked about Cox’s continuation as selector since Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of the panel, is also involved with South Australia as a board member. The shuffling of selectors Hilditch, Cox, David Boon and Merv Hughes to watch as many domestic games as possible may be hampered, so will the rotation for overseas tours.”Quite possibly [there will be obstacles to keeping both jobs], there will be some times when I need to be back here at the Adelaide Oval and we’ll need to manage that over the season, plus the issue of having two selectors based in Adelaide,” Cox said. The likes of Marsh, Greg Chappell, Wayne Phillips, Andrew Sincock and Jamie Siddons haven’t had the best of times while on coaching assignments with South Australia, but Cox is nonetheless confident.”Yes it is [a big job], but I don’t know … I think South Australia have made some positive moves. The squad they’ve set-up for this season looks quite strong,” Cox said. South Australia last won a first-class competition in 1995-96, and they haven’t made it to a final since then, nor won any limited-overs titles.”I know a lot of people are expecting there to be pain, and but I don’t know if there has to be – there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be aiming to be successful side and winning trophies over the next few years.”To “plug the gap” between age-level teams to grade and then state and national levels is a goal Cox highlighted. South Australia’s under-17 and under-19 teams have performed consistently well even as their senior side has faltered. “I will be having a look at everything,” Cox said. “This role goes right down to the grass roots, all the steps along the pathway to the state side and then the national side and if there are gaps in that pathway I want to work to plug them.”

Domestic Twenty20 to be added to women's schedule

India’s women cricketers will gear up for the Twenty20 World Cup in England next June with their first-ever domestic Twenty20 competition. The calendar for the next year, which has been fixed by the Indian board, sees the inter-state tournament staged in April, after the 50-over World Cup in Australia. The board members met with the women’s national selectors, Indian captain Mithali Raj, vice-captain Jhulan Goswami, coach Shanta Rangaswamy, and others in Mumbai to assess domestic and international engagements of the past season and make plans for the forthcoming one, which includes India’s tours to England and Australia.Raj has long stressed the need for a domestic Twenty20 competition if India are to perform reasonably well at the inaugural women’s World Cup, which will be held alongside the men’s tournament. The girls need to get used to playing Twenty20,” Raj said. “Earlier it was just a bang-bang format but now there is a lot more thought going in to how to space your innings etc.”Shubhangi Kulkarni, the convenor of the BCCI’s women’s committee, who also attended the meeting, said the Challenger Trophy, organised for the first time for women this February, had got a positive response. “A lot of young players were picked for the Asia Cup through the tournament,” Kulkarni told Cricinfo. “Railways has always been the strongest side in the domestic circuit but in Challengers, the Railways players were in different teams and younger players got a chance to play with seniors so this is a tournament we will continue with.”It was also decided to tweak the inter-state one-day tournament so that the second leg of matches, previously played in a knockout format, will now be organised as league games to increase the number of matches played during the season. With the World Cup in Australia only nine months away, the selectors hope to pin down the squad after the tours to England, in August, and Australia, in November. “We will have two camps before they leave for England and these two tours should be good practice ahead of the World Cup,” Kulkarni said.In an effort to find young talent, the board had organised a camp for coaches at the National Cricket Academy in January; 31 of the 35 players who attended the camp have passed the Level I coaching test. Kulkarni said the board expected state associations to employ these coaches in training and identifying young players. “We want the states to focus on the grassroots this year.”India’s international calendar is much busier this year than it was last year where they played only one tournament – the Quadrangular Series in Chennai – in February 2007. England and Australia will be tough tours and could provide the right conditions to identify potential players for the two World Cups.

Fulham dealt blow in Rodrigo Muniz pursuit

Fulham have been dealt a major blow in their bid to bring Rodrigo Muniz to Craven Cottage this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Brazilian media outlet Coluna do Fla, who claim that, despite having agreed an €8m (£6.8m) fee for the Flamengo centre-forward, Fulham could now be set to miss out on the signing of the 20-year-old as they failed to submit a formal offer to the Brazilian side in order to confirm the deal.

The report goes on to state that this has left the Flamengo hierarchy annoyed, and could well see the possibility of a move to Middlesbrough back on the cards for the youngster, however, the report concludes by claiming that it is important to note that Muniz’s preferred destination is Fulham.

Nightmare for Khan

While the mess surrounding the transfer of Muniz appears to be of Tony Khan’s own doing, if the report from Brazil is to be believed, it nevertheless represents something of a nightmare for the Cottagers director of football.

Indeed, it is clear that the west London club are interested in the 20-year-old, or else they would not have spent time negotiating with both Flamengo and the player’s agents, as well as agreeing a fee for the transfer of the Brazilian.

However, if Khan’s apparent sloppiness eventually leads to Fulham missing out on the striker, and he goes on to join Middlesbrough instead, it would undoubtedly be a major blow for the co-owner.

Indeed, Muniz would appear to be a player with a significant amount of potential, with the £2.7m-rated man bagging three goals, registering one assist and creating two big chances over his nine Serie A appearances for Flamengo so far this term, as well as making an average of 0.6 key passes and taking 2.4 shots per game.

These returns have seen the 20-year-old earn an average SofaScore match rating of 7.16, ranking him as the club’s joint eighth-best player in the Brazilian top flight.

As such, the forward would very much appear to make a fantastic addition to Marco Silva’s side, not only for next season but for many more to come in the future, and missing out on his signing would more than likely leave a great portion of the Craven Cottage faithful gutted.

'Melhor a mãe deles chorando', diz Maicon após polêmica do Majestoso

Estou do lado dele.
