Players want access to security details – SACA

Players from South Africa have written to their IPL franchises asking for access to security reports for the 2010 tournament, according to Tony Irish

Nagraj Gollapudi02-Feb-2010Players from South Africa involved in the IPL have written to their franchises asking for access to security reports for the 2010 tournament and have requested that they be made available to “their chosen representatives”, according to Tony Irish, the chief executive of the South African Cricketers’ Association. He added that England, New Zealand and Australian players were also taking the same step.Players’ associations from Australia and New Zealand had also approached the IPL, asking the league for details about its security plans, but were rebuffed, with Lalit Modi saying the IPL did not recognise such bodies and would only deal directly with the various national boards.”If there is a threat being made against Australian players and South Africans are playing alongside them, then it could be a threat to them too. That could be a problem,” Irish told Cricinfo. “We don’t know whether that is a problem or not unless we see the security plans.”We have a very strict process that we follow on security where we do a threat assessment beforehand and then we are given access to the security plans. We make sure that security plans are adequate to cover any threats that exists. That is all done by CSA and SACA along with the security consultants. I don’t want to go into the specifics of the threat but there is a threat-level report which says we do need to review the security plans carefully for the event. All we want to do is have access to the report so we can give the players the peace of mind that everything is in place. That is reasonable.”Irish said that if the IPL refused to reveal its security plans then the players would need to take individual decisions about their participation. “There are a lot of players who will have great reservations,” he said. “I cannot commit if players will not come because it will come down to an individual’s choice.”We all want a safe and successful IPL. But it just seems strange because the IPL doesn’t want to deal with the players’ associations and that prevents us from working together to try and ensure the same objective.”

Okoronkwo goal Everton v Sheffield United

Many Everton fans have been left lauding some footage that has emerged involving their Academy player Francis Okoronkwo.

As shared by Everton Academy’s official Twitter page, the winger cut inside the defender neatly before unleashing a curling effort into the opposite corner past the goalkeeper from outside of the box.

The Merseyside club’s U18 team were playing Sheffield United at Goodison Park in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night, and that goal put them 1-0 up.

The game finished 2-1 in the end, and so the U18’s went through into the round of 16, where they will now play Manchester United away from home.

Nonetheless, a lot of Toffees supporters were left in admiration of Okoronkwo’s strike in particular, and gave their reactions.

Nepal and USA claim second victories

A round-up of matches at the ICC World Cricket League Division Five in Nepal

Cricinfo staff21-Feb-2010

Matt Hague began with two wickets and finished with a fifty•ICC

Hosts Nepal continued their strong start to the tournament as they produced an impressive bowling display to defend 180 against Singapore at the Engineering Campus Ground in Lalitpur. Bastana Regmi was the home team’s hero as he followed his 54 with 2 for 33, while Sanjam Regmi did major damage as he claimed 4 for 28. Bastana’s innings hauled Nepal from the difficulty of 74 for 5 to a defendable target, then Sanjam claimed two early wickets as Singapore began their chase. Singapore found scoring tough and hovered around three an over as Nepal kept themselves in the game even when not breaking through. Bastana chipped in with his brace as Singapore floundered on 97 for 5 which soon became 119 for 7. However, Anish Param was holding the chase together before falling to Shakti Gauchan with 36 still needed. The ninth-wicket pair eked out 19 precious runs to increase the tension, but Sanjam claimed the final two wickets in four balls to give Nepal victory.Jersey bounced back from yesterday’s loss to the USA by beating Fiji by nine wickets in Kirtipur. Fiji’s failure to bat out their overs – they were shot out in the 37th over – meant Jersey were always on top of the game and they needed just 20.3 overs to chase a target of 123. Jersey’s new-ball pair of Ryan Driver and Matt Hague did the early damage, reducing Fiji to 51 for 4. A lack of sizeable partnerships hurt Fiji, for whom three batsmen reached 25 but failed to press on. A fifty-run stand for the fifth wicket between Tikovanualevu Kida and Iniasi Cakacaka was the best of the innings, but once it was snapped Ben Stevens in the 26th over Fiji proceeded to lose the remainder of their wickets for 21 runs. Stevens was parsimonious with figures of 2 for 11 from eight overs. Jersey then cantered home with Hague and Dean Morrison putting on a century opening stand. Morrison was the only wicket to fall, for a 55-ball 52, while Hague remained unbeaten on 52.USA overcame a spirited chase by Bahrain to make it two wins from two as Lennox Cush produced a fine all-round performance in Bhaktapur to secure a 19-run win. Cush hit 91 from 90 balls as USA amassed a challenging 273 for 6, but Bahrain made a decent fist of hunting down the target. Imran Sajjad led the reply with a powerful 75 and alongside Abdul Majeed (47) set a solid platform, but the middle order stuttered after Cush removed Sajjad. Orlando Baker also played a key role with two economical wickets and the task became too great despite Adil Hanif’s 46. Cush had earlier formed the backbone of USA’s innings, adding 140 for the third wicket with captain Steve Massiah who made 67 and Cush powered 11 fours and two sixes during his innings.

O nome dele é bem cotado no Sport e no Atlético-PR.

Botafogo faz oferta por Luiz Fernando, do Atlético-GO

JORGINHO, DO ATLÉTICO-GO, TAMBÉM INTERESSA

Spurs lead Franck Kessie race

Tottenham Hotspur lead the race to sign Franck Kessie after a huge claim emerged this week…

What’s the word?

According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, Spurs have the best chance of sealing the AC Milan midfielder at the end of his current contract this summer.

“As I say, going back to my colleague Di Marzio, he said on our transfer show last week that Tottenham will lead the way in the summer, which is exciting,” he revealed to GIVEMESPORT. “The only thing with everything in life, and it’s like presents, you want everything now.”

The north London outfit have long been linked with a move for the Ivory Coast international, who is currently away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, thus making a switch this month a little complicated.

Kessie has turned down a new deal at the San Siro and will be free to leave the Italian giants in the summer.

Antonio Conte is said to have requested his signature during the current window but there is competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool, among others across Europe.

Summer bargain

Whether the Lilywhites can secure Kessie now or in the summer remains to be seen but whenever he arrives, he will be an incredible signing for the club – even more so as he won’t cost a penny in terms of a transfer fee despite being valued at €30m (£26m).

The 6-foot powerhouse is capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch with his phenomenal box-to-box qualities.

Last season, he was Milan’s second-highest goalscorer in the league as he finished on 13 goals, just a couple behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and he’s since found the net five times this campaign.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-transfer-gossip-rumours-conte-paratici-levy-premier-league” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

Also per WhoScored, Kessie has averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.1 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in 21/22, which only goes to show his ball-winning capabilities and his evident threat inside the final third.

His playing style has been likened to that of Yaya Toure and it’s easy to see why on the above evidence, seeing as he can drive the ball forward, defend and score goals.

“I want Kessie in my team, he scores, he assists, he has personality, he has quality, he doesn’t lose the ball, he’s intelligent. I’m watching him carefully, with Roma it was devastating,” ex-Milan striker Antonio Cassano told Bobo TV (via MilanLive). “It reminds me of the Yaya Toure of the best times. He is a different player, but in terms of impact. He is holding Milan’s midfield alone.”

It’s not the first time that the bustling midfield beast has been lauded around the San Siro. His former coach Vincenzo Montella once hailed him as an “extraordinary player” with “sublime intelligence.”

Conte’s engine room may be rammed full of players right now but Kessie offers him something that very few of his current options do, not to mention the dubious futures of Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli, who could both depart N17 before January 31st.

If the Italian has actually requested the Ivorian’s signature, then he will surely be delighted to learn that Spurs are leading the race to sign him ahead of next season.

On the above evidence, with his encouraging statistics and lofty praise, Kessie would be a fantastic addition at Hotspur Way.

Nottinghamshire pacemen demolish Kent

Unlike Essex, conquerors of the Durham attack at Chester-le-Street, Kent’s introduction to Division One cricket has been painful

Unlike Essex, conquerors of the Durham attack at Chester-le-Street, Kent’s introduction to Division One cricket has been painful. If day three goes as badly for them as days one and two they can cancel their Saturday night out in Nottingham.By close of play here, last season’s Division Two champions were into their second innings, having been asked to follow on some 256 runs behind. They had at least managed to secure a batting point, off a misfield the ball before their 10th wicket fell, but it was hardly consolation. The difference has been in the quality of the bowling. With a good covering of grass and little pace, the pitch has not been one to make a batsman feel comfortable. Yet only one of the Kent seamers conceded fewer than 3.58 runs per over. To their captain, the others must have been unacceptably expensive. At no stage were they able to offer him control.By contrast, Nottinghamshire’s attack, spearheaded by a Ryan Sidebottom clearly enthused by his selection for the World Twenty20, rarely had their hand off the tiller. Like Rob Key, Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read would have chosen to bowl first. His bowlers, hostile and generally accurate, demonstrated why.Nottinghamshire began the day in a commanding position, four runs away from a batting maximum. Nonetheless, they were eight wickets down after Andre Adams’s give-away wicket to the last ball of the opening day and Kent would have expected not to be too much longer in the field. Yet Nottinghamshire continued pretty much without restraint, almost for another 17 overs, adding another 60 runs.Paul Franks did much of the extra damage. The 31-year-old, who might have made a career as an England all-rounder had he not been bedevilled by injuries, has found a little bit of the old form lately. He scored a century against Durham UCCE last week, his first in a first-class match for five years. Here, hitting the ball cleanly and with power through the off side, he advanced to 73 before playing around a ball from Matt Coles. The score was his best in the Championship since May 2007.The wicket was a second in five overs for 19-year-old Coles, who saved his best spell until last, having dismissed Luke Fletcher via a catch at second slip with his third delivery. It is the senior bowlers from whom Key will want more. Had Stuart Clark been able to come their prospects would look a lot stronger but with Amjad Khan and Azhar Mahmood they should at least be competitive.Nottinghamshire, on the other hand, could assemble several different sets of bowlers were their full complement fit and available. Here they have no Darren Pattinson (injured) nor Charlie Shreck (rehabilitating after surgery), while it goes almost without saying that neither Stuart Broad nor Graeme Swann is available.Yet with Sidebottom fiercely motivated, the powerful Fletcher eager to build on the promise of last season, Adams developing his skills with the ball and Franks a usefully canny back-up, they still fielded a seam quartet to which most counties would doff their caps.Sidebottom made the first incisions as Kent began their reply, bowling Joe Denly and trapping Key leg before with a couple of tasty inswingers. From 13 for 2, Kent staggered to 58 for 5 as Adams claimed the next three wickets. He had some help. Geraint Jones, who had looked capable of organising a recovery, made a complete misjudgment of what would be the last ball of the morning – bowled offering no stroke. Then Martin van Jaarsveld tickled one down the leg side, although it took a super diving catch from Chris Read to make him pay for it. It was a better ball that accounted for Darren Stevens, on the back foot, giving Neil Edwards the first of five catches at second slip, handing the debutant the distinction of being the first Nottinghamshire outfielder to claim five victims since Derek Randall in 1987.The one that removed the dangerous Sam Northeast, over his right shoulder off Fletcher, was the best of the lot. The others were routine, enabling Adams to make James Tredwell his fourth victim, Sidebottom to add Coles and Franks to claim his second after first slip Ali Brown had pouched Mahmood, without whose lusty nine-four 52 Kent would have been in even worse shape. When Kent began their follow-on, with Tredwell a nightwatchman from the start, neither Sidebottom nor Fletcher was as tight as before. But then two wickets in as many overs – Fletcher bowling Key and Tredwell falling to Adams – left Kent staring at a three-day defeat, still 205 behind.
