Despite having quite a small squad available to him at Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino has taken a principled stance on the futures of Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose.
Both players look set to leave the North London club in the summer and could both stay in the Premier League, strengthening a title rival next time around.
Rose is closer to the first-team picture but Belgian international Alderweireld has been frozen out by Pochettino since his return from injury and that looks set to continue this weekend as Spurs look to inflict a fourth straight defeat on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and keep pace with Manchester United in the race for second.
We asked Tottenham fans, ahead of that crunch clash with City, whether they think it is the right call.
While the majority of Spurs fans – 61 per cent – think it is the right call, there is still a significant chunk of the fanbase that want Alderweireld to be reintegrated into the fold.

Leeds fans are furious after their club announced a new sponsorship deal with Uber.
You’d be hard pushed to find a group of fans more frustrated by their club right now than Leeds (okay, maybe Sunderland).
The fans have had to look on in despair as their playoff push has evaporated into thin air, and they’re now just waiting for the season to end.
While fans are worrying about what the future holds, their club have today announced a new partnership with taxi company Uber.

The club’s official Twitter account stated the deal would “help reduce congestion and address the transport challenges” around Elland Road on match days.
Supporters are now blasting their club for not helping local firms rather than multinational companies.

All too often in recent transfer windows the club have found lesser talents in foreign leagues rather than focusing on what’s right under their nose, and it’s fair to say fans’ transfer frustrations are being echoed by their thoughts on the new deal.

Tottenham fans are absolutely crucifying Kieran Trippier, despite the Englishman picking up an assist in the 2-0 win over Watford.
There was a subdued atmosphere around Wembley on Monday night as Mauricio Pochettino’s side cruised past Watford.
Whether it was the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, the novelty of Wembley finally wearing off, or simply the end of season blues, both the players and the fans seemed like they weren’t really too fussed about the Monday night clash.
Nowhere was this lack of commitment more apparent than in defence, where Pochettino’s side quite frankly looked half asleep.

The game was won comfortably in the end thanks to Harry Kane firing in the second goal from a Trippier cross, but the visitors certainly had enough chances to make a game of it, due mainly to silly mistakes at the back from Spurs.

Trippier is taking plenty of stick for his display, after Richarlison had far too much space on several occasions.
The 27 year-old seems to be the first choice over Serge Aurier, but fans are not happy with his defending on Monday night, and some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…
The thoughts of the football world are with Sir Alex Ferguson as he battles for his life after emergency surgery and the modern way of showing compassion tends to revolve around messages on social media.
Yet, Patrice Evra has made a very salient point about using that fairly impersonal method of communication for such a serious matter and in the process has responded to those wondering why he hadn’t yet done so.
After his current club West Ham United secured their Premier League survival, the French legend – who remains very popular among the United fanbase – took some time out to respond to the matter which makes you realise just how insignificant football really is but also how well the global game’s community can bring people together at times of adversity.
Not a lot else needs to be added to Evra’s classy message and we’ve taken a closer look at some of the best reaction…
As reported by The Sun, Rangers are keen on signing Jermain Defoe on loan this summer as Steven Gerrard looks to revitalise the Light Blues’ attack in the upcoming transfer window.
With Alfredo Morelos having a pretty good debut season at Ibrox, it’s not like Rangers are completely without options in the final third, but there are question marks about how clinical the Colombian is and his ability to perform in big matches after missing a number of chances against Celtic.
Defoe may be 35 years of age, but he’s scored 38 Premier League goals over the last three-and-a-half seasons and has quality and experience beyond almost everyone in the Rangers squad.
A former international teammate of Gerrard, is he the right kind of signing for the Gers this summer?
Fans certainly think so and are excited about the potential switch, even if they recognise it’s a long shot due to the wages he is likely earning at Bournemouth currently.
They took to Twitter this week to share their thoughts…
Manchester United supporters are eager to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford this summer after his stunning performance in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.
The Welsh international came off the bench against Liverpool to score two goals for Real Madrid. His first strike, an overhead kick from a Marcelo cross, was one of the greatest goals ever scored in a major final.
He’s the first player to ever score a double off the bench in a Champions League final and the win means he has now won 11 major career honours, including four in the big European competition.
The performance was enough to spark frenzy amongst Manchester United supporters, who absolutely loved seeing him destroy one of their fiercest rivals.
They’re now begging the decision makers at the club to sign the £63m-rated attacker this summer, believing he’s exactly what they need to compete for trophies next season.

Gareth Bale essentially decided the Champions League final before revealing that he will be considering his future at Real Madrid over a lack of gametime.
Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his desire to get a deal done to secure the return of the flying Welshman if he is unsettled in Spain and Spurs have a good working relationship with Los Blancos.
However, Bale is not the only flier who might be on the market this summer and reports have also swirled that Pochettino has his eye on Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha after the Argentine signed a new five-year deal in North London to see the club into the new stadium next season and beyond.
That’s why we asked you whether the man who has declared to play for the Ivory Coast would be a good option for Spurs as they go in pursuit of silverware next season and the majority said yes.
61 per cent of Spurs fans want to see Zaha at their club next season and you can check out the full results of the poll below…

Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry was on the scoresheet in England Under-21s’ 2-1 win over Mexico Under-21s in the final of the Toulon Tournament at the weekend.
Fry had a strong tournament for his country, and will now be looking to break into the Boro first team next season.
The 20-year-old signed a new five-year contract with Boro back in April, which is an indication of how the Championship club feel about the young defender.
Fry made 21 first-team appearances for Boro last season, but just 12 of those came in the Championship, and he was hardly involved in the latter stages of the campaign.

The club’s supporters, however, are feeling very good about the centre-back’s long-term future.
Indeed, Fry will be full of confidence following his international success with England this summer, and will be looking to break into the first XI during the 2018-19 campaign.

Boro are seemingly facing a battle to keep in-demand youngster Bilal Brahimi at the Riverside Stadium this summer, but Fry will certainly be at the club next term as he eyes a first-team spot.

West Bromwich Albion should consider moving for Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor in order to boost their options for the Championship season.
What’s the word?
The Baggies and Burnley could end up doing quite a bit of business in this window if the media speculation is anything to go by.
It has been widely reported that the Clarets are interested in signing Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez in a double deal.
However, on Wednesday, the Express & Star claimed that West Brom were planning to reject a £25m offer for both players.
[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255574″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Four World Cup myths debunked”]
If Burnley persist, then perhaps the Baggies should try to get more out of the deal than just cash.
It could potentially give the club an opportunity to ask about Taylor’s availability.
Why Taylor?
Darren Moore could do with strengthening the left-back role as his squad will need to cope with the demands of a long, hard season in the second tier.
Taylor was once a target for West Brom, but the 24-yea-old ended up moving to Turf Moor from Leeds United last summer.
The York-born player, who is rated at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, possesses the ability to play in a more defensive role or further up on the wing.
Do the Baggies have a chance?
Despite the fact that Burnley only bought Taylor a year ago, the left-sided player did struggle for game time.

In fact, he made just 14 appearances in all competitions and 11 of those were in the Premier League.
Given that he was unable to hold down a regular spot, Burnley may be more open to offloading the former Leeds star.
Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the new era at Ibrox following the exciting appointment of Steven Gerrard as the club’s new manager last month.
The Liverpool legend was confirmed as Graeme Murty’s successor back in May to officially take charge on June 1, although the 38-year-old was busy prior to his start date making shrewd additions to his squad in a bid to bridge the gap to Celtic this season. The likes of Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Connor Goldson, and Ovie Ejaria have all joined the Gers during the close season, as Gerrard seeks to rebuild a squad that finished 12 points behind the Bhoys last time round.
As such, there are many optimistic and expectant Light Blues supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports suggesting that Danny Ings is free to leave Liverpool this summer.
And Gerrard should certainly be seeking to land the £7.2 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) this summer, as the 25-year-old would bring the sort of quality in the attacking third that could return Rangers to their former glories.
Ultimately, financial problems have gripped the Scottish giants in recent times, with the Gers having failed to win the Scottish Premiership since 2011, and having had to work their way up through the divisions in the last few years just to return to the top-flight.
What do you think of the World Cup so far? Let us know
But with back-to-back third places finishes in the top tier, now is the time for new boss Gerrard to seek to take the club back to its former glories, although it’s clear that much work is needed to be done to bridge the gap and thus challenge Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.
And quality additions like Ings would go some way to aiding the Liverpool legend in that quest.
25-year-old Ings has struggled for regular football at Anfield since his move there back in 2015 in managing just 25 senior appearances for the Reds, with serious injuries thwarting the Englishman’s chances of staking a claim for first team opportunities.
And with the lethal front three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah bagging a stunning 91 goals last term, he simply isn’t going to get ahead of the trio for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven.
Yet that doesn’t mean that the one-time England international is a bad player, as Ings earned a move to Anfield as a result of scoring 11 goals in 35 Premier League appearances for Burnley back in the 2014/15 season, which went some way to earning him that solitary England cap.
Thus, it’s clear that Ings has pedigree in front of goal in the Premier League, and alongside his relentless work ethic in leading from the front and tenacity off the ball, he could seriously flourish north of the border under Gerrard.

Significantly though, Ings’ arrival would represent a seriously quality addition to the Gers squad ahead of the new season, and as such would go some way to both complementing and indeed reducing the expectation on the shoulders of Alfredo Morelos, their go-to man last season.
Thus, with Liverpool’s Ings reportedly ready to leave Anfield this summer, Gerrard must seek to make a move, a move which could help them return to their former glories under the 38-year-old.
