The report adds police patrols are operating in the vicinity of the official's family home and he has not been selected to take charge of Arsenal's game at home to Manchester City this weekend.

While Arsenal won their appeal against Lewis-Skelly's red card, no official should be subjected to this sort of abuse. The report adds the UKFPU are working with social media companies to track down those responsible for aiming threats at the 39-year-old referee.

Wolves hit the jackpot on "fearless" star whose value has risen 233%

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ tough start to the season will only get more difficult with their fixtures after the international break.

The Old Gold had a baptism of fire to begin the campaign, with fixtures against Arsenal and Chelsea, both of which ended in defeat, and a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest before the players dispersed for international duty.

Coming up after the break, the Midlands club host Newcastle United, before a tough Carabao Cup away trip to the Amex to face Brighton. Their fixtures only get tougher from there, and Gary O’Neil’s side must then face Aston Villa away, before playing host to Liverpool at Molineux.

The Midlands club will be hoping they can bounce back and pick up some shock wins, with their midfield being a crucial element to that.

Why the Wolves midfield is so vital

In Gary O’Neil’s fast-paced and transitional system, which places great emphasis on vertical football, the key part is arguably the midfield. They must have quality on the ball, to get it forward as quickly and efficiently as possible, and cover lots of ground without it.

It is fair to say that the options the Englishman has pieced together during his time at the club are certainly effective at that.

They looked to strengthen the midfield this summer by adding enterprising Brazilian midfielder Andre to their ranks. He signed for the club from Fluminense for upwards of £21m, and will bring excellent quality on the ball to their midfield.

Not only that, the Molineux side managed to make Tommy Doyle’s loan move from Manchester City permanent over the summer. The 22-year-old Mancunian had impressed during his spell for the Old Gold last campaign and featured 35 times in the centre of the park for O’Neil.

These players are complemented by the likes of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Mario Lemina, to make up an impressive core of midfielders who fit O’Neil’s system to a tee, and the Wolves boss will be hoping they can rally together and get some positive results in the upcoming games.

Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina.

However, it will not just be these four players he will have to rely on in the middle of the park, with perhaps his most crucial midfielder proving to be a bargain.

Joao Gomes’ transfer value in 2024

The player in question here is Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes. The 23-year-old has been superb for O’Neil’s men since joining the club in January of 2023 and has gone on to make 52 appearances for the Midlands outfit.

He has proven to be a bargain for the Old Gold after they bought him from Brazilian side Flamengo on deadline day of the winter window 18 months ago. He cost just £15m and was brought in initially by Julen Lopetuegi before he left the club that summer.

His profile has been extremely effective in the manager's system. He is a destroyer at the base of midfield, but also good on the ball, able to distribute it quickly and kickstart attacks. Football scout Antonio Mango described him as a "fearless" talent.

Indeed, his defensive nous is also reflected in his FBref stats. The 23-year-old Brazil international ranks particularly highly within the past year for tackles and interceptions, averaging 5.11 per 90 minutes, ranking him in the top 2% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues. He also averages 1.82 blocks per game, which places him in the top 8%.

Stats from FBref

Since joining Wolves, Gomes’ value has risen considerably, and he is now worth more than three times the amount they paid for him.

Indeed, this, Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign the midfielder from the Old Gold but were quoted £50m, a considerable amount more than the £15m they signed him for. It also dictates that, should the player keep improving, he could well be sold on more than Pedro Neto's £51.4m initial departure fee.

Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes vs Arsenal

It has certainly proven to be a superb piece of business so far from Wolves. They invested in one of Brazil’s most talented midfielders, and have been reaping the rewards on the pitch. If they decide to sell Gomes, the Old Gold would be in for a large profit margin.

Wolves must regret selling PL star who's now worth more than Gomes

Amorim’s kind act comes amid a challenging period in his early tenure at Manchester United. The 39-year-old, who succeeded Erik ten Hag less than two months ago, has endured a rocky start, with the Red Devils suffering three consecutive defeats. Following a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over local rivals Manchester City earlier this month, United’s form took a nosedive. They lost 3-0 to Bournemouth, 2-0 against Wolves, and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham. This run has left United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, just eight points above the relegation zone.

The Saudi Pro League now faces a lengthy winter break. They will not play again until January 9, in a clash with Al-Akhdoud.

Isak repeat: Newcastle have offer on the table for "insanely good" target

Newcastle United dropped their first points of the Premier League season last Sunday away to Bournemouth, following a 1-1 draw away to the Cherries. A 77th-minute Anthony Gordon equaliser cancelled out Marcus Tavernier’s first-half opener, to ensure they left the South Coast with a point to show for it. That comes after an opening-day 1-0 victory over Southampton.

Whilst it hasn’t been the perfect start for the Magpies this season, Eddie Howe and his side will no doubt hope to build up good momentum. This is certainly something that could be helped by some potential new incomings before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

Newcastle target La Liga winger

The player in question here is Barcelona and Spanish international winger Ferran Torres. According to reports in Spain, via TEAMtalk, Torres is ‘now seriously considering a move before the transfer deadline’ on Friday, with a 'concrete offer' already on the table from the Magpies earlier in the window.

They have been linked with a move for him all summer and with the former Manchester City winger now seemingly open to a move to the Premier League, it presents the Tynesiders with an opportunity to sign him.

Why Torres would be a good signing

Despite a hamstring injury halfway through the season, Torres still put up some good numbers in that famous Barca shirt. He played 42 games in total, getting on the scoresheet 11 times and grabbing four assists, across just 1994 minutes – an average of 22.1 full 90-minute games.

In terms of his profile, the former Man City winger is very much a goalscoring winger, who possesses elite movement in and around the penalty area, and excellent ball-striking skills. He was described as an “insanely good” attacker by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

One thing that the Spaniard would bring to St James’ Park is experience and pedigree when it comes to winning trophies. Aside from being part of Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 squad, Torres has won the Premier League twice at Manchester City. He has also played under managers who could be described as winners and master tacticians, including Pep Guardiola, Xavi and, more recently, Hansi Flick.

Should the Magpies secure the services of the 24-year-old before Friday’s deadline, it could end up being a repeat of the signing of Alexander Isak. The enterprising Swedish striker also joined the club from La Liga, with Newcastle paying Real Sociedad £63m, which is a club-record transfer for the North East outfit.

It is fair to say the former Borussia Dortmund centre-forward has been a success during his time at St James’ Park so far. He has scored an impressive 35 goals and has registered six assists in just 69 games in the famous black and white kit. That included 21 goals in just 30 Premier League games last term.

Although he is yet to get off the mark in the new campaign, Isak’s move to the North East has been a resounding success so far. If the signing of Torres could have any sort of impact to the same level as their number 14, Magpies fans will be in for a treat when the Spaniard signs the dotted line.

Given the fact he has been a reported target all summer, it seems likely Newcastle would proceed with a move for Torres this summer.

The Barca winger is reportedly considering his future at Camp Nou and there is no doubt he would strengthen Howe's attack given his impressive goal-scoring record. If he can have the same success that Isak has had at St James’ Park, he will certainly be a fan favourite.

After Sosa: Nottingham Forest’s £30m target can make Danilo unplayable

Nottingham Forest’s deal to sign Ramon Sosa appears to be edging ever closer to completion after weeks of various rumours and speculation.

The Paraguayan has made his intent to join the Reds clear, but no deal was agreed with his current side Tallares – yet journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday night that a £10m deal had been agreed for the 24-year-old.

He’s set to travel for his medical on Wednesday adding depth and firepower to Nuno Espírito Santo’s frontline ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign this weekend.

It looks as though he will join Jota Silva, Nikola Milenkovic, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Miguel who have all arrived at the City Ground this summer, with real hope of the Reds pulling clear of the drop zone after two near misses with relegation.

Sosa could also be joined on Trentside by another talent, potentially forming a deadly partnership with the talisman.

Nottingham Forest could land £30m ace this summer

Over the last couple of seasons, Forest have been very erratic with their dealings in the transfer market, signing a whole host of players to try and compete in England’s top flight.

However, this summer there has been an emphasis on quality over quantity, with a move for Porto’s Brazilian striker Evanilson an example of the calibre of player the club are targeting this window.

Journalist Romano confirmed earlier this week that the Reds had a proposal for the 24-year-old rejected, with fellow English side Bournemouth also interested in his services.

His quality is evident with his tally of 16 goal contributions in his 27 appearances in the Liga Portugal last season – with any deal expected to cost around the £30m mark.

While he would be another expensive addition for Evangelos Marinakis, he would certainly be an upgrade on the current options at the top end of the pitch, whilst also aiding one player currently plying his trade at the City Ground.

Why Evanilson would make Danilo unplayable for Forest

Brazilian midfielder Danilo has been an important part of the Forest squad after his £17.8m move from Palmeiras during the January transfer window back in 2023.

His best run of form came at the back end of the same campaign, scoring in three consecutive matches, including the victory over Southampton – which included a delightful assist from Morgan Gibbs-White.

Danilo’s rapid rise hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Manchester United registering interest in the 23-year-old, but it’s highly unlikely that the youngster will be leaving the City Ground this summer.

He would form an excellent partnership with compatriot Evanilson, with his ball-playing ability falling straight into the hands of the centre-forward should he move to the City Ground.

In the Premier League last season, Danilo registered a total of four goal contributions, whilst averaging 4.2 progressive passes per 90 – including 3.7 passes into the final third.

The former Palmeiras ace loves to play the ball into attacking areas where possible and with Evanilson the type of striker to run the channels, his movement could allow Danilo to pick out his compatriot and provide him with frequent opportunities in front of goal.

The midfielder also likes to beat a man himself, averaging 1.1 progressive carries per 90 last season, completing 65% of the take-ons that he attempted – showcasing his desire to progress the play and allow the attacking talents to create chaos.

Whilst a deal for Evanilson may be an expensive one, he would provide a consistent source of goals – crucial in the club’s attempts to avoid a third successive relegation battle.

He would be the next in a long line of Brazilians to make the move to the City Ground, following in the footsteps of Danilo and Murillo in being a fan-favourite on Trentside if he can produce the goods in front of goal.

With Sosa also looking set to arrive in the building, the Ttricky Trees' forward line could take on an exciting new look this season.

Ashworth and Man Utd now table offer for 16 y/o winger prodigy

Manchester United have made an offer for a hugely talented young player with a superb international youth record, according to a fresh transfer update.

Man Utd transfer news

The Red Devils are targeting new signings all over the pitch in the current transfer window, but centre-back appears to be a primary position of focus. Barcelona ace Ronald Araujo has emerged as a strong contender to come in for Erik ten Hag, with the Uruguayan considered an alternative to Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt, who has been backed to come in of late.

Another Bundesliga signing has also been mooted in Borussia Monchengladbach teenager Winsley Boteli, although the 17-year-old likely wouldn't be considered an immediate key man, instead arriving as a hopeful future star at Old Trafford.

Manchester United transfer target Ronald Araujo in action for Barcelona.

Meanwhile, a surprise rumour claims that Romelu Lukaku could potentially seal a return to United ahead of next season, being seen as an option alongside fellow target Joshua Zirkzee. It would be a huge shock if the Belgian came back to Old Trafford, however, especially as he is now in his 30s.

When it comes to possible outgoings in the approaching months, Harry Maguire is one player who could move on, and the Red Devils are reportedly willing to cash in on the 31-year-old, who has never managed to fully convince the masses since joining back in 2019.

Man Utd make offer for teenage star

According to a new report from Football Insider, Manchester United have made an offer for Tottenham teenager Mikey Moore, looking to snap up the young winger this summer.

The same applies to rivals Manchester City, however, with the 16-year-old receiving a number of offers ahead of his 17th birthday next month. Borussia Dortmund are also mentioned in the update, which also states that Spurs are "pulling out all the stops to prevent Moore from switching clubs", as FA regulations stop him signing a professional deal until he turns 17.

Mikey Moore makes his Tottenham debut

Much like the aforementioned Boteli, Moore wouldn't be seen as someone who can come in and make a big difference in United's first team from the off, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be an extremely eye-catching signing.

At just 16, the Englishman has already made two appearances for Spurs, showing that Ange Postecoglou trusts him, and his manager spoke glowingly about him after handing him his debut earlier this year.

"We’ve had him training with us for a while, I’ve been trying to see if we can get him some game time, because we’ve kept him out of the 21s as well, it’s a bit of a reward for him for working hard in the last two, three weeks as part of the first team squad, to give him that experience. He still has a long way to go, he’s only 16, but he’s a good kid and hopefully that encourages him."
