Josh Bohannon’s 14th first-class century came to Lancashire’s rescue as this absorbing Rothesay County Championship Division Two match with Northamptonshire ended in a draw.A career best 7 for 119 from a marathon 57 overs and career-best match figures of 11 for 153 by the on-loan Calvin Harrison looked to be propelling Northamptonshire to a first win in 26 years at Old Trafford. But Bohannon’s innings of 155, spanning more than seven hours, allied to a half-century from Marcus Harris led some stern resistance from the hosts who started the morning on 126 for 2 and fought their way through the day to reach 351 for 9 by the time the players shook hands at 5.40pm with five overs left and Lancashire 83 runs ahead.Needing to take eight Lancashire wickets, Northamptonshire struck early when Harrison disposed of nightwatchman Anderson Phillip for 10, bowled playing down the wrong line to a delivery that turned just enough. That proved to be the visitors’ only success of the morning as Bohannon and Harris played watchfully but with increasing authority through the rest of the session in a partnership that had knocked a further 72 runs off the overnight deficit of 144 by the lunch break.Bohannon, 60 not out overnight, accumulated steadily before joyfully on-driving Harrison for four through midwicket to reach his fourth century in 10 innings against Northamptonshire to add to the two fifties he has scored against the Wantage Road side.Harris settled in quickly after edging his first boundary to deep third off Raphy Weatherall, although it bounced well in front of the slip cordon. The Australian left-hander reached the fence seven more times before posting his half-century from 94 balls that included one sumptuously timed back-foot square drive that was arguably the shot of the day.Northamptonshire grabbed the new ball as soon as it became available after 23 overs with skipper Luke Procter ringing the changes, using eight bowlers in all, in the hunt for a breakthrough which finally arrived three overs into the afternoon.Harris had just posted his third 50-plus score in four innings during a partnership of 94 when he was well caught at short leg by James Sales off Harrison with Lancashire 243 for 4 and still 25 runs in arrears.Bohannon drove Harrison gloriously through the covers for four to take the home side into the lead halfway through the day but the bowler then removed Matty Hurst for 8 via a catch at slip by Ricardo Vasconcelos. The wicket Northamptonshire really wanted arrived ten minutes before tea with Bohannon’s unlucky dismissal, caught by wicketkeeper Lewis McManus from a rebound off the back of Sales at short leg from a Saif Zaib delivery, and Harrison was next celebrating a second first-class five-for when George Balderson popped up a bat-pad catch to Sales at short leg eight overs into the evening.Luke Wells and Tom Bailey (8 not out) took the game into the final hour before Harrison removed Wells for 39 and Tom Hartley for 1 in quick succession but his fine, valiant effort proved to be in vain.
O Guaraní tornava a equipe ofensiva e tentava, a todo custo, superar a defesa alvinegra.
There is tension between Test batter Usman Khawaja and Queensland Cricket ahead of next week’s Sheffield Shield final, but he is likely to be named in an extended squad for the final on Friday with a decision on whether he plays or not to come ahead of the game starting next Wednesday.Khawaja, 38, and Queensland Cricket are at odds over his absence from the last Shield game of the season against South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval, where Queensland secured a draw which qualified them for the final against South Australia at the same venue.Khawaja attended all five days of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne while the game was going on in Adelaide but posted on social media on Tuesday that he was rehabbing a hamstring niggle that he picked up while making match-winning contributions of 127 and 33 not out in the Bulls previous win over Tasmania. There is also a suggestion he is managing an ankle issue that flared up during the Sri Lanka tour although that did not stop him playing against Tasmania.Related

South Australia prevented from hosting Shield final at Adelaide Oval
Queensland Cricket general manager Joe Dawes made strong comments on Wednesday suggesting that Khawaja was not injured and insisted Queensland’s medical staff had declared him available for selection.”That is my understanding from Cricket Australia staff as well. No hamstring issues as far as we are concerned,” Dawes told reporters at Brisbane Airport on Wednesday.”I go off our medical staff and there is no reason why he could not have played the last game. It’s just disappointing he didn’t play a game for Queensland when he had an opportunity to. I have got a bunch of blokes here that all want to play. I think we are disappointed he did not play the game against South Australia. That’s the decision he made and he has communicated some of the reasons for that in the public. Hopefully he will make that decision to make himself available for next week and we will make that decision on Friday.”Khawaja was not the only Cricket Australia contracted player who did not play in the final round of the season. Nathan Lyon also attended the Australian Formula One Grand Prix with Khawaja and has not played since returning from Sri Lanka due to management of a hip issue. Steven Smith did not play the final round for New South Wales after returning from the Champions Trophy but Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey both played for Queensland and South Australia respectively.Every CA and state-contracted player who is headed to the IPL also did not play in the final Shield round as they were all given No-Objection Certificates to head to India ahead of the tournament starting on Saturday.Khawaja has already played 11 first-class matches this summer including seven Tests, meaning he has already played more games and days than any Australian domestic red-ball-only batter would play in a Shield summer in total. The 38-year-old has managed his schedule carefully in recent years, valuing rest over playing a lot of back-to-back games in order to remain mentally and physically fresh for his Test commitments as he attempts to extend his career as long as possible. That management plan has been supported by CA. He missed one of Queensland’s first four Shield games to freshen up ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and missed the Shield game against Western Australia that started nine days after the tour of Sri Lanka where he scored a career-best 232 not out in the first Test. However, Khawaja is likely to have all of April and May to rest after the Shield final finishes on March 30 before preparing for four Tests in June and July which include the WTC final and a three-Test tour of the Caribbean. He won’t have any international commitments thereafter until the Ashes begin in late November.
West Bromwich Albion clinched an entertaining 3-2 victory in their final runout before the Championship season kicks off against Spanish visitors Rayo Vallecano.
Not much can often be dissected from these summer runouts, as the main priority will always be to get fitness into the legs, but Ryan Mason will hope his side can follow up this win with one or two more across the daunting opening matches in the league.
The 33-year-old will be equal parts nervous and excited as he embarks on his first proper season as a rookie head coach, with more new signings likely to be in the pipeline before September’s deadline to help Mason navigate these choppy waters.
Unfortunately, he won’t be able to convince Tottenham Hotspur prodigy Mikey Moore to move to the West Midlands, even with the bonus of Mason’s Spurs connections being on their side.
West Brom's failed pursuit of Mikey Moore
It looked nailed on that the 17-year-old attacker was going to be West Brom’s next statement capture, having already impressed the Baggies masses by signing Aune Heggebo for £4.7m from Brann, alongside ex-Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips also catching the eye as a reinforcement defensively.
However, this deal is no longer one that is feasible to get over the line, with Scottish giants Rangers pipping the Baggies to the in-demand teenager’s signature over Mason’s men, amid a battle also once forming for his signature from Birmingham City.
This is a body blow to the second-tier outfit, with Moore no doubt ready to explode into life even more away from his limited senior chances back at Spurs, having previously collected a staggering 17 goals and 12 assists from just 22 U18 Premier League appearances in North London.
Of course, there is the worry that the teenage sensation will falter away from that Spurs bubble, as the Baggies now attempt to forget about any move falling through by looking to snap up this other exciting attacker instead.
Tottenham teenager Mikey Moore
West Brom can forget Moore by signing "sublime" star
Moore is the flavour of the month, but there’s no guarantee he would be an instant success story in the Championship, away from already bagging a senior goal at Spurs during a fleeting Europa League runout.
Instead, the Baggies could be better off going after an attacking star who already knows what it takes to excel at such a demanding level in the form of AFC Bournemouth forward David Brooks – a player who once cost the Cherries £11.5m back in 2018, having later been valued at £40m amid rival Premier League interest.
West Brom had previously been tipped to make a loan move for the former Sheffield United attacker this summer, but no such move came to fruition in the end, even as the deal hung in the balance at the advanced stages.
His eventual arrival onto the scene, if a move were to get back into motion, would allow for West Brom to forget about Moore in an instant, as the Welshman has more than shown his obvious class in the testing division previously.

The 17-year-old Ibrox-bound attacker, on the contrary, has never experienced what the testing terrain of the second tier is like, even if he does look ready for an opportunity in such a division.
Therefore, going after Brooks – especially on a loan basis – feels like a more savvy move on West Brom’s end over ruminating too much over losing out on Moore, particularly when you also consider the 28-year-old can play through the middle and on both wings, much like his young Gers counterpart.
David Brooks
His former Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe, even labelled Brooks as a “sublime” talent when he was first cutting his teeth on the South Coast, with his standout stint in South Yorkshire in the EFL also leading to his ex-Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, describing him as “superb.”
Everything is pointing in the direction of this being a sterling move to pursue to bounce back from the disappointing news about Moore, as Brooks potentially attempts to be the spark yet again for a Championship side in their hunt for promotion glory.

South Africa have selected their strongest available squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan in order to make full use of their last opportunity to play together ahead of next year’s Champions Trophy.Though South Africa will play a tri-series in Pakistan, which also includes New Zealand, in February next year, those matches will take place too close to the conclusion of the SA20 on February 8 for a first-choice squad to be available. There are nine additions to the squad that last played the format, against Ireland in the UAE, including the return of Kagiso Rabada, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, who last played an ODI almost a year ago.South Africa vs Pakistan ODI series
Dec 17 – 1st ODI, Paarl Dec 19 – 2nd ODI, Cape Town Dec 22 – 3rd ODI, Johannesburg
Eighteen-year-old quick Kwena Maphaka is the only uncapped player in the squad, Maphaka was the leading wicket-take at this year’s Under-19 World Cup, which is played in the 50-over format, and has impressed with speeds of up to 152kph in the T20I series against Pakistan. He also gets an opportunity thanks to the absence of several injured quicks. None of Anrich Nortje (broken toe), Lungi Ngidi (hip injury), Gerald Coetzee (groin injury), Wiaan Mulder (broken finger) and Nandre Burger (lower back stress fracture) could be considered for selection. The squad will be led by regular captain Temba Bavuma, who was injured when playing an ODI against Ireland in October but has since returned to form in the Test arena. It is likely he will be partnered by Ryan Rickelton at the top of the order with Reeza Hendricks, who did not cross 20 in his last five ODIS, dropped. Tony de Zorzi is another top-order option. Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs, Klaasen and Miller all give South Africa an experienced and strong batting line-up.ESPNcricinfo Ltd
Two seam-bowling allrounders in Andile Phehlukwayo and Marco Jansen have been selected, while one other specialist seamer, Ottneil Baartman, and two frontline spinners – Maharaj and Shamsi – have come in at the expense of Bjorn Fortuin and Nqaba Peter. Shamsi’s return is significant because he opted out of a national contract in October in order to have flexibility for league performances and was not included in the T20I series to play India last month. He has since been recalled for the Pakistan matches.”The bowling line-up features one of the fastest in the game in KG, and this series offers another great opportunity for a young talent like Kwena to come in and learn first-hand from the best,” Rob Walter, South Africa’s white-ball coach, said. “In the batting department, we are thrilled to welcome back David and Heinrich, two of the most destructive players in the game. Overall, we are very pleased with this squad.”Bavuma, de Zorzi, Jansen, Maharaj, Markram, Rabada, Stubbs and Rickelton will have a four-day turnaround between the end of the ODI series and the start of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan. WHAT HAPPENED?
Speaking on , the Spain manager said Yamal has shown qualities well beyond his age after helping the national team to back-to-back wins in World Cup qualifying. The 18-year-old Barcelona star registered three assists across Spain’s first two qualifiers, including two in their 6-0 win over Turkey on Sunday.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Yamal has continued where he left off after a fantastic 2024-25 season in which he played a pivotal role in Barca's domestic treble success. He has already netted twice in his first three La Liga matches this season. The young Barca wonderkid is also firmly in the Ballon d’Or race, going head-to-head with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele after another impressive international window. De la Fuente believes Spain are fortunate not only because of Yamal’s rise but also due to the depth of talent around him.
WHAT LUIS DE LA FUENTE SAID
The Spain boss hailed Yamal's maturity at such a young age and claimed that the young winger has the 'potential' to become best in the world., saying: "He's shown impressive maturity, and it's not easy. He's a kid and he's learning, but I'm still frightened by the thoughts he has. Lamine's external image is one thing, and his internality is another.
"Lamine has the potential to be the best in the world, but what about Mikel Merino, Fabián, Pedri…? We're lucky to have many players who are the best in the world in their positions."

Yamal is back in Barcelona after the international break after two big wins with Spain. His focus now shifts to La Liga, where he will be back in action against Valencia on September 14, looking to continue with his red-hot start to the season.
Viktor Gyokeres is a player who has been on Manchester United’s radar over the last couple of months, after previously playing under Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP.
The Swede has been a man in demand not just from the Red Devils, but from multiple sides all across Europe, with a big-money move expected during the off-season.
Amorim’s side have constantly been monitoring his situation in Portugal, but it appears as though they are set to miss out on any deal to land the 27-year-old talisman.
Viktor Gyokeres celebrating.
He’s previously stated his desire to join Arsenal if he were to move to the Premier League this window, leading to the Red Devils exploring other options within the market.
Numerous names have been mentioned as options for the centre-forward position this summer, with multiple players in their sights, which could see other players depart this window.
The latest on United’s centre-forward department this summer
Dušan Vlahović is a player who’s been constantly on their radar over recent weeks, with United in talks with Juventus over a deal for the Serbian international.
Victor Osimhen has been another name mentioned in the last few weeks, but the Nigerian could cost a pretty penny, with his current side, Napoli, demanding £64m to sell him during the off-season.
Galatasaray's VictorOsimhencelebrates scoring a goal that was later disallowed
However, if they are to land any of the aforementioned stars, they may have to sell some current stars, with Rasmus Hojlund edging closer to a departure, according to Man United Source.
They claim that the Danish forward has agreed personal terms with Serie A side Inter Milan over a move to the San Siro this window, with negotiations at an early stage.
They also state that the player himself is pushing for a move to the Italian giants after scoring just four times in the Premier League throughout 2024/25.
Why one United star could be a repeat of Elanga
Anthony Elanga left United back in the summer of 2023, departing in a £15m deal to join Nottingham Forest and ending his stint at Old Trafford, which once held so much promise.
Anthony Elanga
The Swede has taken his career to the next level since departing the Red Devils, with the winger reaching new heights under the guidance of Nuno Espírito Santo.
He featured in every single Premier League outing last season, notching a total of six goals and 11 assists, helping the Reds secure a place in the Europa Conference League.
However, it appears as though he’s set to leave the City Ground in favour of a switch to join Newcastle United, with a £55m deal being mooted for the 23-year-old’s signature.
The Red Devils are due a 15% sell-on from any deal this summer, but given his rise away from Old Trafford, it was a huge mistake in allowing him to depart a couple of years ago.
Rasmus Hojlund
Such a deal could be repeated this summer with Hojlund, with the Dane potentially recapturing his best form if he secures a permanent move away from Amorim’s side.
The 22-year-old, who’s valued at £70m by CIES Football Observatory, is worth more than Gyokeres, who’s only worth £68m despite his recent goalscoring exploits.

Whilst he only managed four league goals last campaign, his first year at the club demonstrated serious quality, registering 16 goals across all competitions, proving he can cut it at the top level.
Selling him would undoubtedly bank them some immediate cash, but given his tender age, he has bags of time to develop and prove why the club spent £72m on his signature.
However, as seen with Elanga, prematurely offloading young talents is a huge risk, potentially selling a player who could star for the Red Devils in the years ahead.
It remains to be seen if he will complete a deal to join Inter Milan this summer, but given the latest update, it appears he’s edging closer to a move – with his departure one the hierarchy will rue if he can replicate the Swede’s achievements.
He's better than Watkins: Man Utd in talks to sign "world-class" £26m star
Manchester United appear to be making moves to land a new striker this summer.
Instantly turning their focus towards further incomings following Mark Travers’ arrival, Everton are now reportedly set to submit an opening bid to sign a midfield star for David Moyes.
Travers welcomes Pickford battle
Displacing Jordan Pickford at this stage of his Everton career would take some doing, but Travers has instantly welcomed the battle that lies ahead. Following an impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough last season, the shot-stopper has completed a permanent move away from Bournemouth to become Everton’s third signing of the summer.

After putting pen to paper, he told Evertontv when asked about battling Pickford for a starting role: “Jordan [Pickford] is an outstanding goalkeeper for Club and country. I’m looking forward to competing with everyone here and being a Premier League player.
“Being in this environment is huge. We’re going to push each other every day in training and whatever happens on the weekend, we’re going to be there for each other and make the most of every opportunity that comes.
“It’s always really exciting to work with a new group and being able to help the younger lads as well. I’ll give it everything. I’ll take pride in doing the right things on and off the pitch and representing this club with a lot of pride.”

Although Pickford’s place is unlikely to be at risk anytime soon, there’s no denying that Travers recorded some impressive numbers last season – even outperforming the England No.1 in certain areas. His arrival won’t steal every headline, but it will add key depth to Moyes’ side in the coming season.
The former Bournemouth man is unlikely to be the last to arrive at The Hill Dickinson Stadium, either, with another name now firmly on Everton’s summer radar.
Everton set to submit imminent Soucek bid
According to TeamTalk, Everton are now set to submit an imminent £12m bid to sign Tomas Soucek from West Ham United. Other clubs have shown interest in the midfielder this summer, but he is reportedly only interested in reuniting with former Hammers boss Moyes in Merseyside next season.

With nine goals to his name in the Premier League last season, Soucek could even provide Everton with an unexpected goalscoring boost, whilst also handing Moyes another physical presence at the heart of his side.
The Everton boss was full of praise for the 29-year-old even when he scored against the Toffees for West Ham last season, telling reporters: “Tomas Soucek is a really good goalscorer. We signed him as a goalscoring midfielder. He’s great in both boxes. He’s a top lad as well. I’m pleased for him but not for us.”
